"Viva la Revolución" is a collaborative mixed-media project that highlights Puerto Rican heritage, history, and culture. There is an emphasis on pride, justice, and liberation with the use of the black and white Puerto Rican flag. Known widely as a symbol of both hope and resistance against U.S. imperial power, this flag simultaneously resonates with other historical and contemporary examples of western colonialism around the world.
The mixed-media approach to the shoot involved adding one of the models Alex's graffiti art and illustrative style, aiming to incorporate his experience growing up with Puerto Rican and Mexican culture in the south side of Chicago. Dianeli’s styling direction is also reflective of how she interprets her cultural pride and the project’s idea through the art and expression of fashion.
This project is in collaboration with Alex Caraballo's modeling and graffiti design (@acaraballo_art), and Dianeli Trinidad's modeling and fashion styling.
