"Reflections of Displacement" is a fashion, conceptual artwork designed by Darrius Parker (purpose.dp) that commentates on the issue of displacement amongst minority communities in Chicago. He writes:
"What happens when the public housing establishment you live in is getting demolished? When you have nowhere to go? Look 1 represents my perception of displaced minorities across the city of Chicago from the early 2000s, whom were displaced after housing managers and CHA’s 'various attempts at improving living conditions.' A failed replacement of mixed income housing with a rigorous application process led majority of those who didn’t qualify ended up either deceased or homeless. The darkness represents the unknown. Where do you go next? Where will you sleep? What happens to the clothing and furniture that you own?"
This project is in collaboration with fashion designer, Darrius Parker, and photographer Kat Zuis.
