"Split" is a self-narrative photography series that delves into the topic of identity and the process of acceptance. These images present my own experience growing up as a Chinese-American without the influence or understanding of my own ethnic culture. The struggle of trying to conform to either side is a tortuous journey; one that distorts personal image and individuality. Through the use of photo-compositing and organic stills, I aim to translate feelings of grief, alienation, and acknowledgment of the situation I was given at a young age. Although it feels like I’m constantly searching for a piece of myself that seems missing, I am beginning to feel as though my Chinese identity is something truly genuine and a part of me that is worth advocating for.
